Billionaire Lily Safra´s charity auction of jewels raised $37.5 million, a JAR Camellia flower brooch Ruby and diamond ring sold for record $6.6 million.

A ruby and diamond ring sold for a record $6.6 million 14th of May 2012 at a charity auction of jewels owned by the Brazilian-born billionaire Lily Safra.

London-based Safra was offering 70 lots of her jewelry, dating from the 1970s to the present day, in a sale conducted by Christie’s at the Four Seasons Hotel des Bergues.

The most expensive JAR piece was a ruby and diamond Camellia flower brooch that was created for Safra in 2003. Pave- set with rubies weighing 173.09 carats, it fetched 4 million francs against an estimate of as much as 1.4 million francs.

Russian billionaire Vladimir Doronin dropped a cool $3.3 million on an Andy Warhol painting Tuesday night at Christie’s post-war and contemporary art sale.

Doronin picked up Warhol’s 1984 portrait of downtown artist Jean-Michel Basquiat, titled “Reel Basquiat” while sitting next to another avid art collector, Peter Brant (no word if Doronin bought it for his longtime girlfriend Naomi Campbell). Christie’s brought in a staggering $388 million during the sale, the biggest ever for a postwar/contemporary auction. Mark Rothko’s 1961 oil painting, ‘Orange, Red, Yellow’, set a new auction record for post-war art on Tuesday at an “unprecedented” Christie’s sale.

The large-scale work soared to $86,882,500, breaking the artist’s record of $72.84 million and eclipsing the $86.3 million paid for Francis Bacon’s ‘Triptych’, 1976, in 2008 as the most expensive post-war artwork at auction.

‘Orange, Red, Yellow’ came from the collection of Philadelphia art patron and humanitarian David Pincus, who died in December, which achieved a total of $175 million, well above the $100 million estimate.

Works by Gerhard Richter, Jackson Pollock, Yves Klein and Alexander Calder smashed artists’ records at Christie’s blockbuster sale that achieved the highest-ever total for post-war art.

The auction house realized a total of $388.5 million including commission against a pre-sale estimate of $236 million to $330 million.

With 59 lots on offer only three failed to sell, an almost unprecedented sell-through rate as determined bidders drove prices for many top-priced works well beyond their high estimates.

“It was phenomenal,” said Koji Inoun, Christie’s specialist in charge of the sale. “It was something unprecedented.”

“It’s a very knowledgeable market, a very sophisticated market,” said Brett Gorvy, Christie’s international head of post-war and contemporary art, adding that “complete global market bidding as well as incredibly strong American bidding” was evident.

Five works sold for more than $20 million, while 11 of the 40 artists whose work was represented set new records.

Klein’s FC1 (Fire Color 1) sold for $36.5 million, 50 per cent more than the previous record of $23.56 million.

Other artists setting records included Jeff Wall, Josef Albers, Vija Celmins and Sherrie Levin. The record for Calder, known for mobile sculptures, was broken twice at the sale.

The auctions wrap up today when Sotheby’s, which last week set a record for any art at auction when Edvard Munch’s The Scream sold for $120 million, holds its sale of post-war and contemporary art.

John Fredriksen, (born 10 May 1944) is a Norwegian-born Cypriot oil tanker and shipping tycoon, owner of the world’s largest oil tanker fleet, and was Norway’s richest man until he chose to abandon his Norwegian citizenship and take up a Cypriot passport. Norwegian magazine Kapital listed Fredriksen in 2010 with a net worth of NOK 69 billion ($13 billion USD).Through his investment companies Hemen Holdings and Meisha, Fredriksen controls the companies Frontline and Golar LNG from London.

In a rare interview, the shipping king John Fredriksen (67) says that the good times in the shipping industry is temporary over.

- The market will come back, but not in two or three years, and until then it’s going to be pretty tough, he said.

The expatriate Norwegian, however, see the situation in the shipping  industry,as an opportunity.
When the market goes bad it’s more an opportunity than a problem, he said.
But the man who controls the world’s largest fleet does not believe that all will survive.

- Most companies will not survive. If this last two years, and we think it will, then many companies will disappear, he said.

- “Scream” too expensive
Last week, Edvard Munch’s pastel picture “The Scream” sold for $ 119.9 million of auction house Sotheby’s. The buyer who paid a record payment is said to be  the royal family in Qatar.

Fredriksen refused  to  participating in the auction he said, that the price was too high.

- I could buy more tankers for the money, says Fredriksen said.

As  Fredriksen’s twin daughters have gotten increasingly more involved his companies many speculate he would retire.

Frederiksen  manages his business empire from London and Cyprus. He has also become a Cypriot citizen. Anything to avoid tax. Through its Cypriot holding company, Hemen Holding, he owns the entire 133.1 million shares in Seadrill.

Hemen Holding is controlled by foundations controlled by Frederiksen and his immediate family. That is, his two daughters, Kathrine and Cecilie.

Fuller is also a major shareholder in other listed companies such as Frontline, Archer, Golden Ocean, Aktiv Kapital, Golar LNG and Marine Harvest.

The last 10-year has been fantastic years.

Fredriksen has the twins Kathrine and Cecilie (born 1983) with his late wife Inger Katharina Astrup Fredriksen. Together they have accumulated personal property around the world, almost all of which have one common feature: beachfront.

The Beachfront Marbella Mansion was bought from a Persian Queen in the early 90s and said to have housed celebrities such as Bruce Willis and Kevin Costner.

The U.S. Billionaire investor  Sheldon Adelson and  his wife Miriam visited Madrid Sunday the 6th of May 2012, to inspect the land located in the municipality of Alcorcón,  the land is now the favorite to  be the the site of the new  Eurovegas complex.

Adelson meet with  counselors of the Treasury  Percival Manglano, and Transportation minister Pablo Cavero, as well as the local mayor  David Perez and the President of Promomadrid  Jesus Sainz.

After the visit  he immediately flew back  to Las Vegas, Nevada in his private jet.

The land for the new  Eurovegas complex in Alcorcón in Madrid is bordered by five roads – the M-501 to the north, the M-506 and A-5 to the south, the M-40 to the  east and M-50 to the west – its only 25 minutes from Madrid-Barajas airport and 20 minutes to the center of the capital.
