"AS you know, for some time now I have been thinking about giving up the car writing caper to become a brain surgeon
That was until I met Stefan Katafai. Katafai was at Battersea Park for the RM Automobiles of London auction, which saw a 1997 McLaren F1 go for $5.8 million. In fact, it was Katafai's client who bought the McLaren.
Now before I go on, I should point out that buying really expensive cars is not for wusses. The bidding started at $1.7 million and got to $5.8 million in under nine minutes. While this does seem pricey for a used car, it's going to get a lot pricier in December when the Aussie dollar hits US45c. (Remember who told you about $40 oil.)
Anyway, I asked Katafai how you get clients with a lazy $6 million to throw at a car, and what he does for a quid. Listen to this. Katafai runs the Billionaires Club (www.agent4stars.com). How good is that? He reckons that in 1986 there were 140 billionaires around the world, but by 2008 Forbes magazine had found 1125. So this is a club with good prospects."
