The 163 meter superyacht Eclipse is now available for charter as the World´s Most Expensive Charter yacht.
Delivered by the German Blohm & Voss shipyard in 2010, both the exterior and interior styling of Eclipse were done by Terence Disdale Design.

Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich's new Eclipse, designed to be the world's biggest, will have a military-grade missile defense system to keep the oligarch safe. It will be longer than Dubai ruler Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid's 530-ft. M/Y Dubai, currently ranked as the biggest yacht in the world. Secrecy surrounds the Eclipse, but an antiballistic missile defense system is being installed by AST(Armoured protection system for mega-yachts with helicopter landing pads built by Thyssen-Krupp Marine Systems AG, and Blohm & Voss, Hamburg), a company with close ties to both the Blohm + Voss shipyard in Hamburg, where the yacht is being built, and the German defense ministry.
The Eclipse is also being equipped with armor plating surrounding the bridge and Abramovich's master suite, as well as bullet-proof windows. There's also a submarine that can be launched underwater and dive to a depth of 160 ft.-50meters that doubles as an escape pod, as well as two helicopter pads. Civilian ships are not allowed to carry weapons and so have to limit themselves to defense systems, but Saudi King Abdullah bin Abdul Aziz gets around this by having his 482-ft. yacht registered as a Royal Saudi Navy vessel, said to be equipped with French-made Exocet missiles. Pirate attacks on luxury craft are on the rise of late. The master suite features a retractable roof, allowing the Chelsea football club owner and his girlfriend, Daria Zukhova, a former model, to sleep under the stars.
the nine deck yacht has space for two helicopters on top, level eight has a bar, sundeck and 16 metre swimming pool which converts into a dance floor whilst level seven also has its own 16 metre swimming pool and atrium. Deck six hosts the saloon and main dining hall whilst the main entrance reception hall is on floor four. Each of the 24 staterooms and suites has a 6ft home cinema screen whilst Abramovich’s own fifth floor 5,000ft² master suite has a retractable moon roof so that the man of the ‘house’ and girlfriend Dasha Zhukova can sleep under the stars. An anti-paparazzi electronic laser shield (yes, they do exist) protects their privacy onboard.
To pamper, cosset and entertain, Eclipse has a Jacuzzi, Spa, disco on the first level and specialised security installations rumoured to include bullet-proof glass, armour plating and a missile detection system. Of course no superyacht is without its toys and Eclipse has an encyclopaedia of them to include six tenders and a three-man submarine which can plunge depths of 50 metres. All of this is kept in smooth working order by a crew of up to 92, that’s a ratio of more than three staff for every guest if at maximum capacity of 30.
Abramovich used to own three other megayachts : the 377 ft. Pelorus (now belongs to ex. wife Irina) , the 282 ft. Ecstasea (sold to American summer 2009) and the 160 ft. Sussurro.And have M/Y Luna a bigger version of M/Y Le Grand Bleu in construction too.
Roman´s Super yacht Fleet (Eclipse €500million+Luna €90million +Sussaro €20 million) will have a value in of € 610mill. by 2010. Running cost will amount to about 10% of the value, which means 60 million euro´s a year.
Blohm & Voss, part of Thyssen Krupp Marine Systems said in 2006 it had eight new yachts on its order books.
There is room for six hull numbers between 971 and 978. The Blohm & Voss online tabulation of recent boats has five conspicuous blanks, and nothing at all is known about those mystery vessels.Project Storm has just been announced by B & V for 2011.
